KARORI FLOWER SHOW

SOME GOOD EXHIBITS. That Karori can produce good flowers is proved by the excellence of the display now being made at the Karori and Makara flower show. The show, opened by the Mayor of Karori (Mr C. Cathie) yesterday, will be continued i throughout to-day. The blooms are uniformly good, and in some cases exceptionally fine specimens are on view. Chief among the professional displays are those of Jackson and Son (gladiolus specialists) and Patterson Bros., while the Stoke Fruit Growers’ Distributing Society (Nelson) are showing a lovely collection of fruit. Mrs K. Boyes, who obtained first award in the classes for dahlias, sweet peas, and geraniums, has every reason to be proud of the quality of her exhibits, the sweet peas being especially good. The class for floral designs saw some )rery pretty and ingenious exhibits tabled, the first prize going to Miss H. MoCallum, who showed a bell oi rose leaves mounted on ivy standards. The buttonholes, bouquets, and sprays were all beautiful, and the competition was very keen. In the homemade class there were many delectable edibles, as well as inviting jams and preserves. The vegetable section made one aware that the vegetables usually purveyed by the greengrocer are decidedly puny and lilliputian things, for the potatoes, cabbages, peas, etc., shown were ail of great size and beautiful quality. The prize list is as under: Asters.—Miss Wickman 1. Carnations.—Mrs Shine 1, Mrs Shine 2. Dahlias.—Mrs K. Boyes first and second. Sweet Peas.—Mrs R. Boyes 1, Mrs Shine 2. Stocks.—Mr B. Sunley 1.
