lANNHAUSER SCORES IN' THE CUP. Press Association. DUNEDIN. February 19. Tbe Dunedin Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened to-day in splendid weamer. The course was in good order, and tbo attendance was excellent. The sum of .£18,028 10s was put through the machine, as against AT3.115 on the corresponding day last year. Redwing was the first to show in front, but she dropped away at the first hurdle. Red Earl going on in the lead from Warsaw and St. Aidan. At tho mile mark Warsaw commenced to press, Red Earl, and in the back stretch St. Aidan looked dangerous. St. Kevin was lying handy but was jumping badly. Only these four were in it half a mile from home, and in a good run home Rod Bari won by a head, with St. Aidan five lengths away. Time, 3min 35sec. Prom a fine start all ran in a hunch for half a furlong, where Optimiform went to the fx*ont followed by Triumphator and Lavidia. At the three furlongs post Ranaldo was leading Nightwatch by a leugtn and a half with Fender lying a couple of lengths behind. Ranaldo led into tho straight, but Nightwatch had him settled in about Ibu yards, and going won by nearly a length, yith Fence; about eight lengths away. Time, Imin IGaec —a record for tho race. Brown Owl, Tannhauser and Coroniform were the smartest, in moving oif, and Brown Owl was the first to strike tire rails, with Tannhauser and Mumura next. Passing the stand Brown. Owl headed Mumura, Tannhauser lying next, and Coroniform last. Approaching the mile post Brown Owl led Mumura by two lengths, then came Tannhauser. Mira, with Coroniform still last. Entering the back stretch Anna Carlovna moved up, but at tho 1 six furlongs Mumura had dropped out, and Brown Owl led Tannhauser by a length, with Tho Cornet third. The Cornet made a good rirn from half a mile from home, and momentarily headed Brown Owl. Brown Owl came again when approaching the straight, but Tannhauser ran - past on the outside and practically took charge. Anna Carlovna came from the centre .of the field, and passing The Cornet, ran into second place, but Tamihauser won by throe lengths, with The Cornet a length and a quarter further away.
