RANGIATUA WINS THE CUP. Press Association. WOODVILLE, February 19. The first day of the autumn meeting of the. Woodvillo Jockey Club was held in glorious weather. There was a largo attendance, and speculation was brisk, the sum of £11,079 passing through the totalisator, which is £lOlO more than at the corresponding meeting last year. Air McMahon, the. stipendiary steward, was present. Results: MAIDEN PLATE; weight-for-ago; six furlongs.—Detkho 1, Muscadine 2, Master Achilles 3. Scratched: Hinepai, Te Huhute, Rangaipoa, Oonziska, Lady Strowou, and Chatsii. At the start Prestwich whipped round .and threw his rider. Huia led the field right into ,the straight, when the horses became bunched. Muscadine was the first to show out, followed by Master Achilles. At the stand enclosure Dekkho was brought up, and after a desperate straggle got homo 'by a good head, the same distance separating second and third. Time, luun 17sec. After passing the post J. Morris, the rider of Sepoy, tell off and was badly shaken. HACK HANDICAP HURDLES, one mile .and three-quarters.—Knutsford 9,1, Kauroa 10.5 2, Gay Lawless • 9.4 3. AH started. Aema led till passing the second hurdle, when she lost her rider. Gay Lawless then took command and led the field for a whole round. Coming down the straight Kauroa was in front, 1 and then Knutsford was forced through, and maintaining the lead, won by half a length, with a similar distance between second and third. Time, 2min 23 l-6sec. WHAEITB HACK, seven furlongs.— Monologue 8.3 1, Sir Daniel 7.7 2, Black Lupin 8.6 3. Scratched: Eongomau, Mediterranean. Lord Palmer and Elk Maid. Sir Daniel led into the straight, when he was challenged by Gerbera and Monologue. The latter won by a couple of lengths, with a head between second and third. Time, Imin 29 3-ssec, WOODVILLE CUP. Of 200 sots; one mile and a quarter. D. Snick's blfc o Rangiatua, 7.5 (O'Shea) 1 E, J. White’s br m Axiom, 8 —2 J. McDonald’s ch g Montreal, 7.7 3 All started. Rangiatua got away with the lead, and kept in front all the way, winning by a couple of lengths, with a length separating second and third. Time. 2min 13 l-ssec. COUNTY HACK, six furlongs.—Aleeto L Axis 2, Sir Moutoa 3. Scratched: Black Lupin and Suratura. Sylvia Hay and Sir Moutoa led the field into the straight, when Alooto headed them and won easily by half a length, PRESIDENTS HANDICAP, seven furlongs. Manitau 8.12 1, Katua 9.5 2, British Maid 8.11 3. Scratched: Kauroa and Monologue. After the start Mount Victoria was taken to the front and led into the straight, when Manitau went in the lead, followed by Katua and British Maid, and won by a good length. Time, Imin 36sec. VICTORIA HACK HANDICAP, one mile. —Papamarama 9.5 1, Waitote 9.8 2, Mediterranean ,8,12 3, Scratched: Settler, Eongomau, Regained, Qtama and Overhead, Waitoto and Top Note led right into the straight, and then Papamarama was brought up, and there was a dingdong go to the post, Papamarama j ust winning by a head. Tune. Imin ICseo, TELEPHONE HANDICAP, five furlongs.—Merton 6.10 1. Vibration 7.12 2,Mon Ami 8 3. Sanguinary was scratched, The start was delayed fully 25 minutes through Waioru, which would not come near the barrier. When a start 6wos effected Nauman and Waioru were badly left. Naumai quickly made up the ground and was leading before half the distance was covered. With one exception all the horses were bunched. Thera was a great straggle to the post, tho outsider Merton winning by half a head, half a head separating second and third. Time, Imin Isec, Following upon the action by Mr McMahon, stipendiary steward, cautions were admiiu>r.cr<xl to W. Young regarding the riding of Expect in the Wharite Handicap and to C. J onions, rider of Distinction in the Cup. M‘. McDonald was suspended for six months for the parelesa riding of Waitoto in tho Victoria Handicap. SECOND DAT ACCEPTANCES.
