AUSTRALIA’S LOYALTY

WEST AUSTRALIA’S PREMIER HAS NO MISGIVINGS. LONDON, February 17. Sir Newton Moore, Agent-General for West Australia, entertained at luncheon the Hon. John Scaddan, Premier of that State. Among those present were the Earl of Harrowby, Captain Muirhead Collins (private secretary to Sir George Reid, High Commissioner for Australia), the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand), Sir Joseph Ward, the other Agents-General for Australian States, Messrs Connolly, Molly, Booth, and Wilson (West Australians), and many commercial- and shipping representatives. Mr Scaddan, replying to the toast of his health, said he had no misgivings regarding Australia’s loyalty. In West Australia especially the working classes appreciated the Motherland’s financial assistance in developing the country, and also her naval protection. His Government intended to continue its predecessors’ immigration policy. Mr Lewis Harcourt, Secretary of State for the Colonies, eulogised Sir Newton Moore’s services.
