Tho imposition of tho censorship prevented news leaking out. A raking fire was exchanged between the opposing forces. WASHINGTON, February 17. The Senate opposes any intervention in Mexican affairs. President Taft has assured President Madero that the United States military and naval measures are merely natural precautions for tho safety or Americans. AMERICAN TROOPS IN READINESS. MADERO LIKELY TO OVERCOME 1 DIAZ. (Deceived February 18, 9.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 18. Two thousand troops have been ordered to Cuba, where they will ho held in readiness to embark for Mexico’ should the situation demand it. Private advices indicate that President Madero is likely to overcome General Diaz and to get control of thel situation shortly.
