Press Association. DUNEDIN, February 17. John McLellan, aged twenty-eight vears, who was admitted to the hospital on the 6th inst. suffering from severe injuries sustained at Patearoa on the Ist inst., died this morning. It is surmised that he fell off a. dray when crossing the water race. The accident resulted, in deceased being deprived of the power of speech. Miss Ellen Turnbull, aged about seventy-five years,- was fatally injured by the first express from the north between Waianawarua and Herbert today. The accident occurred just after the train had passed a sharp turn on a down grade. Apparently deceased, who was somewhat deaf,, did not hear the driver’s warning whistles, and before the train could be stopped she was struck. She died soon afterwards. CHRISTCHURCH, February 17 Thomas McCready, an old man wh4 wandered away from his home in Christchurch over a week ago and waa found on Sunday at Chaney’s in a very exhausted condition, died in the hospital this afternoon. AUCKLAND, February 17. While getting off a train on Saturday at New Lynn before it had stopped a little fellow, James Morris, aged eight, fell between the carriage and the platterm and had his foot crushed. A. lady who was travelling in the same carriage saw the lad’s plight and pluckily made a dive to pull him out of danger, but she was just too late, iha boy’s foot was amputated in the hospltal' GRBYMOUTH, February 17. At the inquest to-day touching the death of John MoGeady, whose body was found on the North Beach on January 17th the evidence showed that deceased had been drinking on New Tear’s Day, on which day Fe disappeared. George Braidwood said he had been told deceased was assaulted by another man on New Year’s night. Deceased was wearing a valuable gold chain when last seen, but this was missing when his body was recovered. The inquest, was adjourned. During the hearing one witness was locked up for appearing in court intoxicated.
