THOMAS JOHNSTON’S CASE
Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 17. After escaping from the Avondale Mental Hospital, Thomas Henry Johnston, of \Vaihi, went through some interesting experiences. Johnston hid in a clunvp of gorso, near which a search party passed a number of times, and when darkness fell he proceeded in the direction of Penrose, and from there followed the railway line to Westfield. Ho gradually worked his way to To Aroha, and then crossed the ranges to Waihi, reaching that town three days after his escape. Upon the expiration of twenty-eight days’ learo which has been granted him it is stated that Johnston intends to press his applies tion for an inquiry into the circumstances leading up to his detention in the mental hospital.
