REGENT AUCKLAND SHOOTING SENSATION. JURY FINDS NO BILL. Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 17. Amongst the cases sot down for hearing at the criminal sessions of the Supremo Court was the charge against Kathleen Somerville Ryan, arising out of the shooting sensation in W. J. Colwell’s dental rooms in Smeeton’s buildings. The grand jury had before if the question of whether or not it should return a true bill against the girl Ryan. The grand jury had disposed of most of the charges by ‘the afternoon, and at 5 p.m, the foreman announced that it wanted his Honor's advice in connection .with the case. The foreman said the jury was very much divided on the point of whether the charge was attempted murder or only an attempt to do grievous bodily harm. His Honor pointed out that the charge was not attempted murder at all. The words “attempted murder” appeared on the outside of the indictment, but that-was nothing to do with the real The charge was really attempted grievous bodily harm. The "foreman: That puts a different complexion on the matter, your Honor. The grand jury then retired again to further consider the matter. When the jury came back an hour later the foreman announced that they had found a true bill on the third count, that of discharging a firearm. It was then pointed out by the Registrar that there were only two counts) one of attempted grievous bodily harm, the other of discharging a firearm. The" "jury went back to further consider what should be done in the case. Fifteen minutes later the foreman said that the jury were now agreed upon a no bill on all of the counts. The girl Ryan was then brought before the court. “I need hardly tell you,” said his Honor, “that you must refrain, in your own interests, from doing anything to annoy people.” With this brief advice the girl was set at liberty.
