New Zealand was asked to contribute £4OOO, £433 more than the previous year. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr L. M. Isitt, that the vice-president have a seat in the conference following his year of office. A motion that the pastoral address bo discontinued was agreed to. ,An address was received froin the Wellington Ministers’ .Association:, and the conference ; directed that it be suitably replied to. . . Obituaries of the.late John Crump and Alexander J. Reed, two ministers who had passed a way since the previous conference, were read. _ After s number of sneakers had paid tributes to the memory of the deceased, the obituaries were ordered to he printed in the conference minutes. SUPERNUMERARY FUND. The report of the supernumerary fund board of management was presented by the Rev. H. Bull. It showed that on December 31st last there was a balance of £7278 7s lOd, of which £2275 4s lOd was deposited with the Post Office Savings Bank and £SOOO with the Christchurch City Council. The receipts totalled £7317 6s Id. of which £SOOO was remitted from the Australasian fund as a first instalment of moneys to be transferred to New Zealand in connection with the establishment of a separate fund for New Zealand. It would be necessary for the conference to adopt tables under which ministers of the former Primitive Methodist Church qould join the fund. The conference was recommended to authorise the incorporation of the New Zealand ooara of management under, the Religious,. Charitable and Educational Tracts Act, and also to increase the _ membership of the hoard by the addition of cm© minister and one layman. All th© .recommendations of the board were adopted. . The recommendation of the actuary to the Australasian fund'respecting the division of the fund as on December 31st, 1911, was adopted. The report of tiro actuary stated: ‘ ‘Th© value of the liabilities of the Australian and New Zealand sections being £348,780.9 and £56,432.7 respectively, while the total funds were £440,636.6, a sum of £60,413 10s, as at December 31st, 1911, should, in my opinion, be paid to the New Zea.land Conference on assuming responsibility for tho benefits to members accepting the guarantee of the newlyconstituted Now Zealand Fund in hen of that belonging to the whole Australian Church. This will leave £380,121 14s remaining to the credit of the Australian section of the fund.” At was agreed to empower tho board to make alh necessary adjustments with the Australasian board. The Rev. S. Lawry stated that the general treasurers recommended an in- - crease of -10 per cent. in. all—annuities as from April Ist next. After some discussion it was decided: “That tho Rev. Trestrail be requested to reconsider his application, but that should he, after reconsideration, press his request, the president of the conference he authorised to forward his name to tho approaching general conference of Australasia and to facilitate the transfer.” DISTRICT CHAIRMEN. On a ballot the following chairmen of districts were elected: Auckland, Rev. G. Bond; South Auckland,. Rev. G. W. J. Spence; Taranaki and Wanganui, Rev. J. A. Luxford; Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu, Rev. J. Murray; Wellington, Rev. S. J. Serpell; Nelson, Rev. W. Baumber; North Canterbury, Rev. S. Lawry (ex officio); South Canterbury, Rev. W. 3. Williams; Otago, Rev. P. W. Fairclough; Southland, Rev. W. Grigg. Tho Rev. G. Bond was unanimously elected chairman of the Wesley Training College. It was decided that the next conference be held at Dunedin, commencing in tho third week of February, 1914. ORPHANAGE PLANS. Tho Bov. H. Bull presented tho repom of tho committee set up to deal with the proposed orphanage institution. After many inquiries had been made the board decided to undertake purely orphanage work as soon as circumstances favoured such a stop. In tho opinion of tho committee it was expedient that there should be for tho present at least two orphanages, to bo known as tho Methodist Children's Homo; ona for tho North Island, in the Auckland provincial district, and ona for tho South Island, in the Canterbury district. The committee had made a careful estimate of the probable current expense for running tho proposed South Island section of tho institution for the first twelve months on the grounds that the rented house would afford accommodation for thirty children, but with only twenty in actual residence during l the term named. I’ho estimated cost was £6OO. There being reasonable ground for expectation that the ladies of the church would be willing to undertake the fur'aishing of the home, no amount was set down on tho estimates for this purpose. In tho opinion of the committee, the current and incidental expenses of the proposed institution should be met from time to time by amounts received as donations, subscriptions, grants, etc., towards the work, and that such current and incidental expenses should not be made a charge upon the capital of th© fund, or upon the interest received from the same. The committee was impressed with the importance of the proposed work and was deeply anxious that an early commencement should be made. It was decided, on the committee's recommendation,- that an institution, to bo called the Methodist Orphanage and'*"Children’s Home, be established as soon as possible in Canterbury. Another decision was to take steps without delay to secure annual subscriptions to the extent of at least £SOO to meet the current expenses and ’commence the work. Of the sum of £1414 11a 3d now in hand, it was agreed to transfer £6OO to the treasurers of Wesley College hoard for tho purpose of an orphanage in the Auckland district, the balance being retained and devoted to the acquisition of orphanage property in Canterbury. It was decided to obtain the sanction of the church building and loan fund for the purchase of orphanage land and buildings. Thanks were given to the general committee for its past work and the following committee was elected foi the year: Tho ministers of the Christchurch, and Lyttelton circuits, the connoxional secretary, and the Rev. H. Bull, Messrs G. H. Blackwell, O. E. Salter, J. O. Prudhoe, J. A. Flesher, T. T. Robson, L. M. Isitt, M.P., J. Bowron, J. L. Scott, W. H. Seed, H. Holland, E. Hall, J. H. Pugh, and Sister Mabel. Convener: Rev. W. A. Sinclair. “ METHODIST TIMES.” . The Rev. J. W. Williams and tho Rev. A. M. Scotter, 8.A., were elected editor and assistant-editor respectively of tho “ Methodist Times.” On the motion of the Rev. C. HLaws it was decided that in future there be two readings of stations only, consideration of the second reading being deferred until at least on© day after its presentation to the conference. METHODIST IMMIGRANTS. On the recommendation of tho immigration committee it was decided: (1) That tho Rev. J. G. Chapman bo appointed chief immigration officer for iSew Zealand; (2) that the following be appointed immigration officers at tho respective ports: Auckland, Rov. AV. Ready; Wellington, Rev. J. G. Chapman; Lyttelton, Rov. B. F. Rothwell; Port Chalmers, Rev. G. T. Marshall; Dunedin, Rov. AV. Slade; Rluff, Rev. J. Sharp; (8) that special badges bo worn by those who will meet Methodist immigrants on arrival in. Now Zealand; (4) that a suitable notice be printed on cards explaining to immigrants the arrangements for their being met on arrival here, and that some properly appointed ministers in Hobart and Port Chalmers bo asked to Lav© these duly posted up on board the inward bound steamers; (6) that a letter explaining these arangements for tho reception of Methodist immigrants he sent to each of the Methodist Conferences in Great Britain, and that they be urged to avail themselves of the facilities offered for the proper transfer of their members or adherents coming to tho Dominion. Thanks were passed to those responsible for the conference arrangements, to the hosts and hostesses of delegates, to the president (Rev. S. Lawry), the vice-president (Hon. C. M. Luke), tho secretary (Rev. C. H. Laws), and the assistant secretaries (Revs. Sinclair and Drake). Tho conference will conclude its deliberations this afternoon. DECISIONS RATIFIED.
