HON E. MITCHELSON INJURED

BROKEN LEG AND WRIST. Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 15. An unfortunate and severe accident befol the Hon. E. Mitchelson yesterday. He had been attending the Waitemata show, near the extreme end of the Takapuna tram line, and was awaiting a tram car for town, being at the time engaged in consultation with Mr H. H. Ad ams. Ho was also holding the hand of a boy named Ralph Wilson, aged about fourteen, Who recently came from Northern Wairoa to attend tho Auckland Grammar School. The boy, who resides at Northcote, had been to the show with Mr Mitchelson. As the tram car was approaching a whistle from' an engine startled a loose draught horse which had .been grazing on the side of the road, and the animal, galloping along at tho side of the engine, suddenly swerved across tho line in front of the car. It dashed straight towards Messrs Mitchelson and Adams, with such pace as to cause • both to jump aside. Mr Adams side-stepped away from the tram lino, but the Hon. Mr Mitchelson stepped the other way and collided with the engine just as it was stopping. At the same time the boy Wilson was knocked down by the horse. Mr Mitchelson was thrown violently on the roadway on his left side, and many people who rushed to his aid realised that he was badly hurt. Doctors found that Mr Mitchelson’s left leg was broken near the ankle, that a small bone in his loft wrist was fractured, that a severe cut above the right eye needed a stitch, and that a few minor facial abrasions needed attention. The boy had fortunately escaped with a severe shock and some scratches on the knees. Mr Mitchelson *uffered no internal injuries, A third person, a married woman, suffered slightly as tho result of the accident. She was knocked down by the bolting horse almost at the inrtant when the boy was thrown down. Shock was the principal trouble in her case, and she was able to leave for her home by an early tram car.
