BLAZE ON THE WHARF
NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY’S STORE GUTTED. About 6.20 o’clock last evening a fire broke out in a store near the Glasgow wharf, leased from the Harbour Board by tho New Zealand Shipping Company for storing cargo-working gear. When tho brigade had extinguished the blazo it was found that the contents had been damaged to the extent of about £l5O, Part of the roof of tho building fell in. Tbo outbreak was noticed by the Harbour Board employees, tho alarm being given from the power station The brigade arrived with two reels, and soon subdued the flames. A subsequent examination showed that the fire started among some canvas in a loft. There was about £BOO worth of meat bags, mutton slings, nets, rope, canvas, etc., kept in the store. Four of tho New Zealand Shinning Company’s men been working in tho store until 5 o clock. An adjoining store leased by Gannaway and Co. suffered slightly through heat and water. The building, which is constructed of brick, is insured in common with all the Harbour Board buildings. The insurances on the conwere not available last evening.
