VICE-REGAL. Lord Liverpool leaves Wellington on Monday morning for Taumarliuui and the Wanganui river. Ho will go down the river from Pipiriki by a Maori canoe to tho native settlement at Jerusalem on Wednesday 'morning, returning in the same way to Pipiriki in the evening. On Thursday his Excellency will coach from Pipiriki to Ohakune, and reach Wellington from that point by train next Friday morning. Lord and Lady Liverpool and suite will go into residence in Auckland during the first week in March. Tho Rev. Mr Alexander Glendinning, who recently left Palmerston North for the Old Country, died in Edinburgh last Sunday, according to a cablegram received from Miss Glendinning by th« Mayor of Palmerston North, ihe deceased departed for Scotland, with.Mu; R. Mr Christian Helliman, A.R.C.M.. London, conductor of tho Sydney-Syn. phony Orchestra, and ono ot the aru<m panists of the Sydney Philharmonic-Sc ciety, has been appointed conductor o the Royal Choral Society, Wellington in succession to Mr Maughan Ihuneiu Mr Helliman, who possesses high eiedentials, acted as conductor of trie Sydney Philharmonic for about six mentor - during the absence of the. society s per- • maneut conductor, and Was “ runnerup ” for the position of Sydney City organist. He will assume his new du-, ties about the middle of April. In making the announcement during an' interval in the rehearsal of “ Carmen " by tlie Royal Choral Society last night, Mr R. T. Caldow (chairman) said that Mr Helliman was a maa eminently suitable for the position, and the committee had received communications from competent authorities -w Sydney stating that the society could consider itself exceedingly fortunate'in securing Mr Holliman’s services.
