Special to the “Times.” NEW PLYMOUTH, February 13. Bercola's win tb-day in the Hack Hurdles was one of the luckiest I ever witnessed. Aviatrix led ' him over the last fence by twelve or fifteen lengths, but Flynn, dashing up on Bercola, beat her by half a length. Aviatrix being favourite her backers caused a demonstration, and all hands concerned were called before the stewards. The inquiry was eventually adjourned till the 25th, when a full and searching investigation is to be made. Patronale was an odds-on proposition for the Grandstand Handioju- nd in a

desperate finish Deeley, on the favourite, just beat Ineuru by a head. Chamanade won the Omata Hack in great style from two heavily backed ones in Passadena and Jack Pin. Lhe wmnei is a fino upstanding chestnut, three-years-old, by Sylvia Park —Ora. Byron, who met with a good bit of interference in the Cup, won the Paul Memorial Stakes in convincing style, the unlucky Dearest being runner up. Kina, when out with Patriotic in front three furlongs from home, burst a bloodvessel and was pulled up. Aruake, who finished fast and just missed a place the first day, won the Second Welter in good style. Minora had tho Kawau Hack Handicap in safe keeping half a mile from home, and won nicely, St. Luap just beating Rangikapua a head for second. Two hot favourites in Goldsx2e_ and Peroneal never got near the front in th& Farewell Handicap, Rector Girl winning from Overtime. It was Overtime's fourth appearance at the meeting. While do* ing her preliminary Lucerne hurt herself in some unaccountable manner, and she had to be withdrawn. She appeared, in great pain on returning to the birdcage. Had all been well she couldn't have been beaten. Reflect was a warm favourite for the Final Hack flutter, but Floss beat him easily. Indeed lie was a trifle lucky getting second. If anyone was pleased when the meeting was concluded I should ©ertainly jsay it was the stewards, for wnenever one went out of the press room there was a small army of jockeys and trainers waiting to be cross-examined. The only time there was a lull in that part, of the programme. Charlie O'Connor started the ball again by having the owner of Piriwai up for something that happened at the start of the Grandstand Handicap. Ajs all the riders taking part in that event were called, I should say that stewards were not 15 minutes from their room from the time the racing started. Mr McMahon had Jack O'Shea, the Auckland lightweight, up before the stewards no lees than three times at the meeting. The club paid out on Bercola, but impounded the dividend on Aviatrix till after the inquiry on the 25th. - Worcester was not produced to-day, his two hal’d races the first day completely knocking him out.
