THE EASTER CONFERENCE

A SUGGESTION

From information gathered from correspondence , and conversations with prominent poultry-keepers, it appears to the writer that producers are not altogether enthusiastic with the outlined programme that has been published regarding the subject matter with which it is proposed to deal at tho forthcoming poultry conference to bo held at Auckland in a few weeks’ time. Tho weight of opinion expressed is that on this occasion at least, tho usual papers and discussions on tho care, breeding, feeding, etc., of poultry should be entirely eliminated from tho order-paper and the weight of the conference during the whole of its session be concentrated on the commercial aspect. Most of the delegates and visitors to previous conferences have been persons who, are more or less set in their opinions regarding the different phases of tho industry, particularly as regards breeding and general care of their stock, and, with the lengthy programmes that have been submitted very little time is available each day for discussion, and beginners who have attended in the hope of gaining some expert information have mot with disappointment. If one subject only were exhaustively treated there would he better results, and the annual gathering would serve a still more useful service than it has done. Seeing that the commercial aspect of the industry is a burning question throughout the land, this seems an opportune time for experts to look into matters in the hope of effecting improvements and removing any misconceived ideas that may ho prevalent. In view of the near approach of the conference, we have been asked to remind secretaries of egg circles to forward without delay any remits that they wish brought forward for discussion so that the committee may have them printed and cirpulated among other circles in time to have them considered before the delegates are sent to Auckland.
