FOXTON TRAMWAY EXTENSION
To the Editor "N.Z. Times.” Sir, —No doubt you have seen the report of the visit of the Aiimster of Railways to this district in connection with tho proposed extension of tho Foxton tramway to Alarton Junction. Why it should be extended to Alarton Junction, instead of to Greatford, I am at a loss to know. Alarton is well served by railways at the present time. The shortest, most natural route, and the one which would prove of most service, is through Bulls to connect at Greatford. Tho distance is a little over five miles. The distance to Marton Junction from the present terminus is over nine mileA so that there would be a saving of at least four miles of railway to construct, and Alarton would still be connected by rail with Foxton. One objection put forward by Marton was it might interfere with the traffic on the main line'between Greatford and Marton (four miles). That is simply absurd. If the Government take over the line they can easily arrange a time-table that will not in any way clash or disturb traffic on the main line.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY. Bulls, February 12th.
