BOXING TOURNAMENT

BERT LOWE DISQUALIFIED. Press Association. GISBORNE, February 12. Tho tourney of tho Gisborne Association was concluded to-night. In the amateur six-round bents some very interesting fighting was witnessed. Decent beat Mcßae on points after an exceptionally exciting contest. In the, other bouts Frure got a points decision over O’Connell, and Davis defeated Robinson by the ‘same medium. Tho professional bout for the heavyweight championship of New Zealand between Bert Lowe (holder). Gisborne, and Fred Williams, Tolago Bay, ended disappointingly, Lowe being disqualified in the tenth round for holding and hitting. Lowe had previously been warned for tho same offence and for hitting low and for delivering a “kidney’’ punch. Williams, by clever footwork and ducking, had caused Lowo to miss badly, whilo he himself had steadily accumulated points through the medium of a good left, which frequently found contact. It the eighth round tho Gisborne man became very aggressive, but the visitor had no difficulty in keeping out of harm’a way. The referee’s decision, though correct, met with a mixed reception.
