From Our Own Correspondent. MASTEETON, February 11. The output of the Featherston Dairy Company so far this season is fiftyeight tons in excess of last year. The present daily supply of milk is 400 gallons ahead of last year. In a lawn tennis match at Martinborough on Saturday last Tararua defeated Martin borough by 9 sets to 7. A movement is on foot to re-establisb a post office at Clareville in place ol the one recently destroyed by fire. The -settlers interested intend to hola a • meeting nest week to discuss the matter. The second competition for the McFarlane Cup was completed on Saturday last by the Greytown Rifle Club, when the best scores were; T. C. Irving 93, AV. A. Tate 92, A. G. Rhodes 92, A. B. Balfour 90, S. Feast 33. The leading aggregates are; A. Balfour 189 A. G. Rhodes 168, H. Knowles 168, W. Feast 186, J. Hodge 184, T. C. Irving 182. Mrs C. H. Bowen, of Carterton, has left on a lengthy holiday trip to Auckland. .Mr H. C. Wilkinson, of Western Lake, South AA r airarapa, who has been in indifferent health for some time past, intends to leave this week for Taranaki for the purpose of recuperating. Air J. W. Holland, formerly of the Featherston post office staff, _ but now of AVellington, is to be married next month to Miss Rowe, daughter of Air R. Rowe, of Featherston. The Pahiatua County Council has a debit balance of £4602. There are seven persons in the Pahiatua County in receipt of charitable aid. The workmen employed by the Pahiatua County Council are apparently feeling the high cost of living, for several of them have petitioned the council for an increase in wages to £3 per week, as they find it extremely difficult to make ends meet. The requests have been referred to the engineer for a report. Mr and Mrs Temple Frere, who have been on a visit to Pahiatua for some time past, left yesterday on their return to England. They were accompanied by Mr and Mrs Finnis, of Pahiatua. Misses Davis. Miller and Gates, of Pahiatua, have been gazetted as registered nurses. Mr G. W. AA r est, of Pbngaroa, has been appointed ranger and dog-tax collector to the Akitio County Council at a salary of £l5O per year. Two young men named Tate and Jensen, who were working at a flaxmill at Alfredton, were thrown out of a buggy yesterday, and each sustained a broken leg. They were removed to the Pahiatua hospital for treatment. The'AVaiotiaki bridge, which is to be erected between Pongaroa and the East Coast, will ibe 250 feet long. There will be one truss span measuring 99ft 10in, and six land spans each 25ft in length. The tender of Messrs AV. AVhittaker and AV. Robertson, of Pongaroa, tv as accepted for the work by the Akitio County Council on Saturday last. Mr A. Mclntyre, a well-known Pahiatua resident, has left for Napier, where he intends to reside. Prior to his departure the members of the Pahiatua fire brigade presented Mr McIntyre with a silver-mounted cigaretteholder and a case as a mark of esteem. The Eketahuna Oddfellows entertained Mr H. M. Feeney, who is leaving the district, at a farewell social on Saturday night, and presented him with a purse of sovereigns. The Carterton Brass Band has elected the following officers for the ensuing year: —Patroq, Dr Gunn; president. Mr F. Feist; vice-presidents, Messrs J. M. Nicholls, AV. A. Kitchen, H. Keltic, A. Phillpots, H. H. AVoltcrs, W. H. Booth, H. Dooley, Dr Johnston, Sir AV. C. Buchanan; conductor, Mr R. Crawley; deputy-conductor, Mr AV. H. Spooner; corporal, Mr J. Stringer; sergeant, Mr O. Petersen; treasurer, Mr R. Crawley: secretary, Air C. Foster; custodian, Mr AV. Kay. The band has a playing membership of twentyeight. The Eketahuna County Council has accepted the following tenders for the lease of reserves at Hukanni: Reserve No. 132, AV. Griffith, £5 15s; Reserve No. 133, A. Hooper. £5 10s 6d. A nine-mile road race held last evening by the Masterton Cycling Club resulted as follows: J. Clarke, 80sec, 1; A 7 '. Beckman, 120 sec, 2; C. Valler, 120 sec, 3. Time, 23min 15sec. H. Flaws registered the fastest time, viz., 22min ~2ssec. Settlers in the Eketahuna district state that many of the cereal and root crops this season are superior to anv yet grown in the district. The rape crops generally are also very good. The Borough Council has 'decided to obtain a report from the borough engineer in regard to extending and enlarging the water supply of the town.
