At a meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery to-day Dr Kirk, of the Canton Village Mission, called attention to the urgent necessity Of the Church being prepared to invest di11.400 in the purchase of land and the erection of buildings in the Car ton field during the nest two years. .This sum was needed in addition to the extra amount of .£ISOO required for the' continuance of the work being carried on at present. Dr Kirk stated that there was urgent need of three deEartmenta of teaching, preaching and eating, schools with an adequate staff of teachers and suitable buildings, churches with well equipped ministers, and a hospital with all modern arrangements and appliances. These could only bo carried on if the Church was prepared to provide the necessary funds. A resolution was passed that the letter he sent to all sessions and deacons’ courts within fne bounds of the presbytery, drawing attention to the appeal, and exhorting them to endeavour _by every means in their power to excite the interest and enlist the sympathy and liberality of the respective congregations.
