ACCIDENTF AND FATALITIES
Press Association. ROTORUA, February 10. A Maori named Solomon Newton, aged fifty, one of the most popular members of the troupe that went to AmeriAca a few years ago, was drowned through falling off a fishing launch in Lake Rotorua last evening. A girl seven years old, daughter of Mr Arnoldson, was seriously injured on Saturday near Taupo. A motor car containing the parents and two children went over a bank, a distance of twenty feet. Three of the occupants were thrown clear of the car, but the girl was pinned underneath. The lector has hopes for her ultimate recovery. The others were uninjured, but are suffering from shock. NAPIER, February 10. , Andrew Johnson, aged seventy, was found drowned in the harbour on Saturday evening. He left the ’Cnion Hotel half-an-hour earlier and was seen to to in the direction of the eastern pier. At the inquest deceased’s wife gave evidence that Johnson had been drinking heavily of late. The coroner returned a verdict of accidentally drowned while intoxicated.
