IS IT A WORLD’S RECORD? WASHINGTON. February 8. Percy McGillivray swam 500yds in Chicago in 6min 19 4-ssec. This is \a world’s record. MoQiUivray’s time is not a world’s record. At Leeds (England) on August 28th, 1905, B. B. Kieran swam 600 yards in 6min 7 l-sseo, and this is acknowledged by the International Federation as the world's record, being as well' the English record. The Australian record is also held by Kieran, who did 6min 10 3-sseo at Bronte Bay on February 18th, 1905. What McGillivray has done is to break the American record, which stood to the credit of C. M. Daniels, the time being 6min 21 2-ssec, established in New York on February 23fd, 1907. AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Received February 9, 5.5 p.m.) HOBART, February 9. In the Australasian swimming championships tho 880yds contest resulted: Longworth 1, Smith (New South Wales) 2, Springfield (Victoria) 8. Won easily by 27yds. Time, I2min 2sec. ‘ Breast-stroke, 100yds; Finney (Victoria) boat A. Wickham by inches. A great finish. Time, Imin 18sno.
