HOROWHENUA COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. From Our Own Correspondent. The ordinary monthly meeting of the above council was held at Levin. Present: Councillors G. N. Stephenson (chairman), G, A. Monk, G. Watson. H. J. Richards, J. Kebbell, H. Freeman, F.- W. Venn, A. W. Skennan, and J. Prouse. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as follows: From T. Sevan considering the council should bear' the whole of the cost of repairing his road at Manakau, the damage being caused by a blocked culvert on the council’s road. . ■ From Bruce County Council re hosmtai and charitable aid lories. From J. R. Whyte, stating the Tokomaru recreation ground title was now clear. , , From W. J. Smith re Heights road, stating it was in a dangerous condition through loose rocks, etc. From the Raagitikei County Council re motor by-laws, and pointing out the advantage of local bodies having uniform by-laws. Prom New Zealand Railways re Kingston crossing,- and stating the matter would be attended to on receipt o£ the council’s cheque (£32 10s). RESOLUTIONS. That the report of the committee appointed to adjust accounts with the Otaki Town Board he adopted, and that the seal of the council be affixed to the agreement in. connection with euch adjustment 'a# soon as the same is nrePa Thai the issue of an auctioneer’s license to Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., bo approved, . , . ' That the chairman be appointed-de-legate to their motor conference and the Auckland exhibition conference. That with regard to the maintenance of Kingston and Tokomaru Valley roads the olerk prepare a statement of the amount of rates derived from property on each road, and amount to same available for road work. . , , _ That steps be taken to ask the Railway Department to remedy the dangerous state of the overhead bridge at Mauakau. That the owner of the boiler how lying on the banks of the Ohau river be given notice to remove it. That the chairman wait on the Hutt Council and suggest that the maintenance of the Iwkiorangi-Waikanae road go to arbitration. . That the health officer's attention be drawn to the fact that part of the Shannon township was being cut up into sections of from 12 to 15ft frontages. That the chairman interview the Manawatu County Council at its next meeting with the object of having arbitrators appointed re the maintenance of ShannonFoxton road. ~ . , ~ That the council suggests that for the purpose of representation on all governing bodies, where practicable, counties, boroughs, and town districts shall have separate representation, and where such representation is not practicable and united representation is necessary the franchise possessed by such borough or town district shall bo the same as that exercised by the county. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to .£1912 5s 8d and loan accounts .£269 19s 9d were passed for payment.
