SATURDAY AFTERNOON’S MATCHES TRICKY WIND AND BAFFLING LIGHT. A light< tricky rear wind prevailed at Trentuam on Saturday afternoon. In addition the light was baffling, consequently marskmen did not experience an easy time. Accounts of the matches are appended: KARORI v. DEFENCE AND OEU , N AVALS. Tse Karori Rifle Club tired teams matches against the Defence Staff Rifle Club and the Old Navais’ Club. The conditions in the case ot the first match were seven shots at each of the three ranges, 300, 500 and 600 yards, and in the case ot the match against the Old Navais seven shots at 000 and 500 yards. The former provided a most interesting contest. At the finish of the 000 yards range the Staff team held an advantage of eleven points, which was increased to a lead of thirteen points at 500 yards. At the concluding range, however, the Karori team managed to make good the deficit, and secured a win by the very narrow margin of one point. The top score lor the match was made by Rifleman J. Burns, of the Karori Club, who notched 98 out of the possible 105. The next best score was 93. put on by Rifleman F. W. Ching, of the Staff Club. The match against the Old Navais Club resulted in a somewhat easy win for Karori by 81 points. Riflemen O. Tiuuey and J. B. Turner both shot well, the former putting on 68 out of the possible 70 and the latter 67. The best scores for the Old Navais’ team were 65 and Cl, registered by Rifleman J. Rabo and Rifleman F. The result of the competition is as follows'Sergeant Giddens, Ist; Bomb. Tidier, 2nd; Corporal Abel, 3rd. PETONE v. UPPER HUTT. Teams from, the Petone and Upper Hutt Clubs fired their annual mate? on the Petone Club’s range at Waiwetu on Saturday. Petone won with a majority of 19 points. A possible was put up by Bussell, of Petone, at 500 yards, while Rifleman Mdlvride, of Petone, was the highest scorer with a good 99. Details: Petone Rifle Club.

Kext Saturday the Petone Club will fire a teams match against the Highland Rifle Club, wftii ten men as under, at Waiwetn: —Mcllvride, Gallien, A. Ballinger, W. Ballinger, Carter, Ryan, Clout, Russell, Ayson and Glennie Emergencies—McLachlan, Warburton, Faulknor, and Birch. THE SUBURBS AT MIRAMAR. The Suburbs Defence Rifle Chib continued its trophy shooting at Miramar on Saturday, at ranges 500 and 700 yards.

for trophies presented by Messrs Hempton and Bellamore, Witcombe and Fym, and the club. An 18in bull s-eye vie used at 700 yards. The best score at 500 yards was by T. J. Chapman, with ■l7. and at 700 yards by C. J. Fisher and J. H. Rees, each with 44. Ross won on the count back, and takes tho silver spoon for the boat score at 700 yards. A special prize has been received from Mrs \V. M. Jackson, lady vice-president of the club, to be allotted to the member who secures the least number of misses at 700 and 1000 yards. Mr \V. M. Jackson also donates a special prize for the least number of misses over the whole ot the championship series. The club will continue its shooting on Wednesday at Miramar, finishing the second match in the fourth senes, aW yards. On Saturday next the thud match will be fired in the fourth series, ranges, 500 and 600 yards. The club will be represented at the Dominion Rifle Association meeting by the following: Riflemen T. Deputy-President C. R. Graham was in charge of the shooting. •G. J. Emms ia a veteran of seventy years, and still wishes to keep his "eye in" with the Suburbs. NGATIAWA RIFLE CLUB. The Ngatiawa Rifle Club fired the final competition for Mr Ernest Brown's trophy, the scores also counting for the club's championship belt. The condltions were seven shots at 900 and 1000 yards. Once again riflemen had very "patchy'’ weather to contend with. The wind and the light were both exceptionally tricky. Xu fact, it was one of these flays on which luck plays an important part in compiling a score. Rifleman W. D. Bennett headed the list for the day, and also wins the trophy.
