Wellington Stock Exchange received the following telegram from Talisman Consolidated, Ltd.:—’’Board cable 4 interim dividend of Is 9d and bonus ninepence payable February 27th." SOUTHERN GRAIN & PRODUCE Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. February 7. There, has been a fair quantity of wheat offering during the interval between tho present and last report, mostly from North Canterbury district. There has been a good demand for wheat from Waikari or on similar country, and millers have been giving: 3s 4-i-d to 3a 5d for it, most of tlie sales having been made at 3s 4)d. This wheat is especially useful for early milling and invariably commands tho Highest price early in the season. There is not likely to be any export of wheat this season. The local price is now above export value, but tho market will bo practically ruled by tho price at which Australian flour can bo landed to Now Zealand. Oats are offering pretty freely. Duns being plentiful, but they are mostly light, and there is no demand for any but good samples. Owing to tho difficulty of making profitable sales merchants are not inclined to give more than Is lid or Is Hid at the outside for Gartons. , . Barley is coming forward in nice condition. but the proportion of prime quality is not largo, the bulk being light. I’or prime malting 4s is being paid. There is a fair quuatity of Cape barley and ryecom offering, and tho price offered for both discriptions of grain is 2a (country stations). . The grass seed market is weak, and Is 3d to Is 9d is the general range of prices, s . , . , Not much business is yet being done in cocksfoot, and tho price ranges from 3d to 4d. . The white clover crop is aa unsually prolific one, and the seed that is being offered is mucE above the average to condition and quality. Up to lOd per lb is being offered for prime samples. Offers are now being made of £4 per ton for early varieties of potatoes for March delivery. It is not known yet how the crops will turn out. .They look well, and tho late rain will have considerably benefited them. FRUIT AND PRODUCE WELLINGTON MARKETS. There has been a distinct falling off in the supply of peaches, apricots, and plums during the past few days, in fact the volume available of these fruits has not been sufficient to meet the requirements of the market, and consequently values are showing a distinct firmness following upon an advance. Apparently there is a smaller crop than -usual in southern orchards as inquiries have been made in this market for supplies which in the ordinary course would be met by consignments from local orchards. Tomatoes are also in short supply, and the market at the present time is particularly strong, with no immediate prospect of their being any increase to consignments coming to hand. Cape gooseberries are now coming on the market and receiving a particularly keen measure of attention. Apples, both dessert and cooking, are not arriving any too freely, and for favourite descriptions of dessert the inquiry is inclined to be strong. Further shipments of pears arrived from Australia this week and had a good outlet; locally grown are arriving somewhat sparsely, and the market generally is good for this fruit. Messina lemons are in fairly large supply, but as a heavy inquiry is being faced and further shipments cannot arrive here not 11 next

Thursday, present stocks should ho worked off before then. Australian grapes arrived on Wednesday, and any line in good order had an excellent demand. South Australian grapes have not jet reached this market. Island fruits in the shape of .bananas from Rarotonga are due here, via Auckland, on the 10th instant,, but. it is questionable whether anything like large quantities will come to hand. . rijian shipments arc expected on 13th instant. Apoles, choice coloured dessert, bs od to 9ii fid case, prime Ts to Bs, cookers (choice large) 4s fid to 5s fid case, prime 3s to 4s; grapes, choice lOd to Is lb, prime 7d to 9d; nectarines, choice 4s to 5s half case, prime 3s to 3s 6d; greengages, choice 6s Gd to 7s 6d half case, prime 3s Gd to 4s; tomatoes, choice 9s fid to 10s Gd half case, prime 7s. to 8s 9d, groon 4s to ss; capo gooseberries, choice 4Jd to 5d lb; peaches, choice 5s fid to 6s Gd halt case, prime 4s to ss, interior 2s 6d to 3s Gd; plums, choice dessert 4s to 5s half case, prime 2s 6d to 3s 6d. POTATOES AND ONIONS. The market locally does not display any great change in so far as prices are concerned Ths Auckland district is still responsible for securing . a large share of this city’s requirements, and this will be the case pending South Island potatoes being on the market, which should he in about a fortnight's time. The tubers are generally giving satisfaction, and a good demand is being faced. Onions arc now offering freely from the Canterbury district, and for ahead delivery values are bound to decline. Meantime the market is steady at last rates. The, Auckland district is feeling the benefit of inquiries from America, a trade which has greatly developed of late. Pickling onions are in good demand, and supplies somewhat scarce. Potatoes, prime samples £7 10s to £B . IDs per ton; onions, prime £7 to £8 per ton; pickling onions, .£l3 10s to £H 10s per ton. OTHER VEGETABLES. Cauliflowers, carrots, pumpkins, marrows, and green peas all being in small supply are realising high rates in the local markets. Swedes especially are in keen inquiry, and realising particularly good figures. Cauliflowers, choice heavy Ste to 10s sack, prime 6s 6d to 8s 6d; cabbages, choice 4s to 5s sack, prime 2s 6d to 3» fid; lettuce Is to Is 9d case; French beans Is Gd to 2s bag; green peas. 9s to 11s part sack; carrots, 4s to 5s sack; turnips, 3a.6d to 4s Gd sack; swedes, £3 10s to £4 per ton; pumpkins. 8s to 10s sack; marrows, 3s to 4s case; parsnips, 4s Gd .to 6s sack; beetroot, 4s Gd to 5s 6d sack; rhubarb, 3s to 4s dozen bundles. EGGS. During the past few days the market has displayed a particularly firm tone, and supplies are quite insufficient to meet the demand at Is 7d to Is 8d per dozen. POULTRY.
