HUTT PARK COMMITTEE

A special meeting of the Hutt Park committee was held at Lower Hutt last evening. There were present Messrs il. Baldwin (chairman), J. W. McEwan, J. Barlow', E. P. Brocklebank, S. V. Burridge and A. Macaskill. ’ Contributions towards the committee s fund were received from, the _ Hutt and Petone councils, the amount in each instance being .£2O, being the balance of .£63 promised by each body.. The Hutt River Board wrote offering to supply tho committee with soil for topdressing at fourpence per yard. A supply of 1600 wards ican be provided. P. W. Cameron, who tendered for lease of ihe park at a rental of £SO per annum for grazing purposes, a lease tnat was not completed, wrote stating that ho could not see his way to complete the contract, and now offered to take tffe reserve at .£3O per annum. —Lease not to be further proceeded with. The Hutt Valley Trotting Club applied for negotiations to be reopened for the lease ot tiie park for trotting. The chairman pointed out that the committee had informed the secretary ot the Trotting Club that negotiations would be opened, but it would be necessary for the club to submit proposals. This had not been done, and it was impossible for tho committee to deal with the matter, it was ultimately decided that tho club be informed that the committee is prepared to open negotiations, but it may be found necessary to alter the position of the course as laid out on the old plan. A. Btanett, secretary of the Hookey Association, informed the committee that his association was prepared to accept sii grounds for the coming season, at a reduced rental, provided the grounds are satisfactory. On the suggestion of Mr Baldwin it was decided to discuss the tenders for the supply of soil for topdressing before dealing with tho Hockey Association's letters. The tenders submitted were mostly for cartage only. King Bros, tendered at 2s per yard (cartage), U. H. Gosse 3s Cd per yard", C. O'Connell 8s §er yard (soil and cartage), A. Peters and ons 2s per yard (cartage), F. L. Simpson Is 5d per yard (cartage). It was decided to accept the Hutt River Board’s offer at fourpence per load and P L. Simpson's tender for cartage. Tho quantity to be obtained is 400 loade, and the River Board is to bo asked to give 200 additional loads free of royalty. The chairman said the committee was nothin a position to guarantee tho Hockey Association six first-class grounds, and it was resolved to inform tho association what the committee proposed to do, and to ask for the association's co-operation as the work progresses.
