THE COMMISSION’S REPORT. (Received February 7, 10.10 p.m.) HOBART, February 7. The Lyell disaster relief fund totals £5619. The Commission reports that the law does not require more than one exit from a metalliferous mine, but anyhow there were passes in the Lyell mine extending in various directions to all the levels, whereby tho men oould have been rescued in tho event of the collapse of the main shaft, or in tho event of almost any occurrence except tho generation of deadly fumes. Regarding removing the men, the report states that the shift bosses did everything humanly possible in the circumstances. The lessons of the disaster should suggest Improvements to he embodied in pew legislation.
