MR. HERRIES AT MARTON

TRAMLINE EXTENSION FAVOURED. Press Association. MARTON, February 7. Tho Hon. W. H. Herries was taken over the Foxton-Sandon tramline this morning, and left the tram at Pukenui, near Bulls. When he had motored over the proposed extension to connect with the State line near Marten, he was met by representatives of the adjacent local bodies, who also waited upon him as a deputation. In replying, Mr Herries said he would not refuse the connection, but wanted more information regarding increased traffic to compensate for loss to the department through tho tramway. Ho was fully in sympathy with the deputation, and would recommend his colleagues to sanction the connection if ho obtained tho desired information; but he wanted the railways ca benefit benefit to tho whole colony rather than just locally. Mr Herries left by the south express.
