Mr Gavin Brighton, prominent in connection with the controversy over tho recent land transaction, acting under advice, intends to institute proceedings at the first sitting of the Supremo Court to compel the Lands Department to grant him a freehold title of tho coal-bearing areas held by him under lease-in-perpetuity. Two applications for tho freehold of such sections made by Mr Brighton were held over at last meeting of tho Land Board.
