From Our Own Correspondent. February 7. Tho Mangatainoka Gun Club fired two matches on Wednesday afternoon. Tho competition for Mr Morgan’s silver teapot was won by Mr H. Wagner, with eight kills (the possible). For Mr May’s trophy Messrs Wagner, J. O’Brien, and H. F. McLean each killed seven out of eight birds, and in the shoot-off Mr Wagner was again successful. Mr O’Brien secured second place. Mr D. Boyle, of the railway staff at Masterton, who has been transferred to Lower Hutt, will be succeeded by Mr A. Evans, of Ormondville. Mr J. Nairn, of Palmerston North, will judge the pot plants and flowers at the Pahiatua Horticultural Show. Mr J. Graham, of tho Dairying Department, will judge itho cheese and dairy produce. Mr Webber, of Eketahuna, who has just returned from a trip to England, has, it is understood, been appointed to the Eketahuna Presbyterian charge. Mr F. W. Fish, who has been organist and choirmaster at St, Cuthbert’s Church. Eketahuna,' for several years, was presented by the choir with a silver egg-stand. Mr Fish will leave this week for Westport. Another round of the Ruahine bowling pennant tournament was played at Daunovirke on Wednesday, when the Pahiatua seniors defeated Dannevirke seniors by 28 points to 14, and the Pahiatua juniors defeated Dannevirke juniors by 29 points to 15.- Tho Pahiatua teams havo won three matches each in the competition. Mr B. R. Cameron, who has been appointed to succeed Mr Fish as manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Eketahuna, was presented on Thursday by the members of the Masterton Bowling Club with a silver afternoon tea service and a case of pipes as a token of esteem. Mrs Cameron was the recipient of a silver hot-water kettle from sixty of her friends in Masterton. Messrs E. R. Guinness (Timaru) and W. Brown (Cambridge) will judge the thoroughbred and light horses at the Masterton show, Mr Frank Day (Hamilton) the Jersey and dairy cattle, Mr D. Kirkpatrick (Gisborne) the Lincolns, Mr S. R. Lancaster (Palmerston North) the pigs, Mr W. Richmond (Hastings) the freezers and fat sheep, and Mr W. Webb (Hastings) the vegetables. At tho Bideford sports yesterday the silver cup for tho most points in the pedestrian events was won by W. H. French, the cup for the horse-jumping events was won by Gordon Laing, the trophy for tho most points in horse events by R. Douglas, and the ladies’ bracelet for the most points in the ladies’ events by Miss A. McGovern. The events run by the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club last evening resulted as follows:—7syds handicap, R. Messenger 1. R. McKenzie 2. A. C. Bowman 3; BSoyds handicap, J. Bradbury 1, R. McKenzie 2, L. Crass 3.
