The death occurred on Wednesday evening of Mr James Richard Brown, a native of Wellington, in his sixty-eighth year. The deceased, who was a son of me late Mr Charles Brown, one of Wblhngton's very early settlers, for a quarter of a centuiy had been m the service of the City Council. In his younger days he was a prominent member of the Star Boating Club, being one of the founders of that club, an<f he was also a member of the famous, unbeaten Holly Varden crew. He married Miss Annie Plimmer, of WeUington. who with a family of five daughters survives him. Lieutenant-Colonel G. C. B. Wolfe, of the New Zealand Staff Corps, has been transferred to the reserve of officers and appointed inspector of rifle clubs, drillhalls, and riife ranges, with the temporary rank of Colonel. The son of MajorGeneral Wolfe, he -was educated at th« Plymouth aud Royal Naval College and served in the Channel and Mediterranean squadrons He retired from the Navy with the rank of captain ■in 1897, and the following year came out-to New Zealand. In 1900 he was appointed O.C. Nelson, and in 1907 he was transferred to Auckland in a similar capacity. Dr Cameron has been granted leave ol absence from the City Council for tb* remainder of his term, two and a hall months. He will not seek re-election in April. The Mayor, on behalf of the council, last night wished “bon voyage’’ to Councillor Cameron, who leaves shortly on a visit to Vienna, Berlin and the United Kingdom- Councillor Cameron, in acknowledgment, said it was with considerable regret that he was leaving Wellington and the council at the present time, in the first place, he had not been in the best of health lately, and as a result he had decided to leave practically at once. One thing he regietted was that certain of the old councillors would not bo standing again, notably Councillors J. Smitn and Shirtclifle, because their sci vices were required just now in the council's affairs.
