AUSTRALIA’S NAVY

TRIBUTES IN BRITISH PRESS. (Received February 7, 0.20 a.m.) LONDON, February 6. “The Tiroes” congratulates Australia on tho rapid headway she has made with her navy. She is already, in embryo, a new centre of naval power with a first basis for tho establishments required to build and man her own fleet. The Pacific is not at present a threatened sphere. There is time to frame a policy in accordance with tho desires ot the various dominions. The “Standard” pays_ a tribute to Australia’s efforts as evidened by the cruisers Melbourne, Sydney and Australia. Though units of a fleet intended primarily for self-defence, they will also uphold Great Britain’s supremacy, in far-off seas.
