ROOSEVELT AND AUSTRALIA
“GREAT ADMIRATION FOR AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE.” (Received February 6, 9.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, February 6. The Hon. K. O’Malley, Minister of Home Affairs, has received a letter from Mr Roosevelt, stating 'that nothing would give him greater pleasure than to visit Australia. He adds that he cannot imagine any American, who’is seriously interested in the affairs of his own country and of the world, who would not feel himself fortunate in having a chance to visit the great Commonwealth. Personally he has a very great admiration for the Australian people. INSUPERABLE OBSTACLE TO VISIT. (Received February 6, 10.46 p-m.) SYDNEY, February 5. A resident of Sydney, while in America, negotiated with Mr Roosevelt for a lecturing tour of Australia. After consideration Mr Roosevelt has now replied that the time required is an insuperable obstacle.
