LOWER HUTT COURT
The monthly sitting of the Lower Hntt Court was presided over yesterday by Dr A. McArthur, S.M.. Messrs J. Wilkins and J. Cudby, J-P.’s, being also on the Bench. Alexander Matheson was fined 20s foi a breach of a prohibition order. Arthur Ellison had a fine of Se and a conviction recorded against him for drunkenness. Eor riding a bicycle after dark without a light Thomas Caldwell was fined 5s and costs, with the option of three days’ imprisonment. For a breach of the butchers’ award Prank Mooney was convicted and fined ss. For allowing stock to wander on the borough streets, Peter Sliarp, G. A. Palmer, William Patterson, A. Swalnson, G. Oswald, R. McDonald, John Hunter and Laurence Driscoll were each fined 5s with costa 7s, while Thomas Burton ( two charges) was fined 5s on each charge, Alexander Sammons 10s, and E. Nelson ordered to pay the costs of the court. Judgment went by default in the civil cases, McMenamin Bros. v. Hawthorn £4 17s 6<L costs 7e; John Bernard v. William Donan £3 13s 3d, costs ss; Lees'and Co. v. S. D. A. Greit A‘9 15s, costs Bs. In the judgment summons cases, James H. Strauohon v .Thomas Turner, a claim for £5 10s, and John Bernard v. A. L. Smith, a claim for £3 3s, the judgment debtors were ordered to pay the amounts owing by the 19th inst., or undergo seven days’ imprisonment.
