MARCONI CONTRACT

MR LAWSON/ WITHDRAWS EVIDENCE. LONDON, February S. Mr W. R. Lawson has withdrawn all his evidence given before the Parliamentary Committee inquiring into the terms of the contract between tho Post Office and tho Marconi Company, in which he alleged that the Government was tied to tho Marconi Company. Mr W. B. Lawson, a journalist, dealing with financial matters in his evidence before the committee, said that instead of purchasing tho Marconi patent at a fair price, the Government by an agreement placed the Post Office in the hands of patent exploiters, and had struck a death-blow to British progress in regard to long-distance wireless telegraphy. The negotiations, Mr Lawson added, were carried on by the Secretary of tho Post Office, and not a single independent authority was consulted.
