MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE
ASPENDALE MOTOR-CAR FATALITY. MELBOURNE, February 4. In connection with tho Aspendalo motor fatality, Albert Lewis, driver of tho car, has been arrested on a charge of manslaughter. Ho says that when ho saw the light which Parkinson was carrying he tried to avoid tho pedestrians by pulling to the left hand, but when he swerved tho car dashed into them. Ho had thought the light was attached to a cart, and made allowance for the vehicle to pass. When the occupants of the car recovered from the first shock they endeavoured to help the injured. It was reported yesterday that Mrs Donald, the wife of Dr Donald, of Warrnacknaibeal, Nurse Ryan, Miss Cuishaw, and Roy Parkinson, were walking in company along a road, when a motor car dashed into them from behind. Parkingon was knocked down and rendered unconscious. Mrs Donald was dragged thirty yards along tho road and received internal injuries, from which she expired shortly afterwards. The others of tho party were uninjured. The car continued on its course until it struck a tree, and its occupants —two men and two women—were thrown on to the roadway. Another car arrived and conveyed the four occupants of tho first car to a private hospital in Melbourne. It is believed that they were not seriously injured. Their names wore not discovered.
