SAVES FATHER FROM SEA RECOGNITION OF REMARKABLE BRAVERY. Cy Telcgrrapli—Press Association— Oopyrtubt (Received February 4, 9-50 p.m.) FREMANTLE, February 4. At a meeting of citizens, I‘lorne Waters was presented with a P urs 9 , sovereigns, also ten pounds subscribed by Sydney citizens. A message from Fremantle on December 13th stated: Some days ago keeper Waters, of Bathurst 1 omt fighthouse. Kottnest Island, accompanied ay his daughter, 18 years of age, set out on a fishing excursion in a small dingny. Whilst in the vicinity of Mundy Island, a mile from ilottnost, a tremendous breaker swamped tho boat. Both were thrown out, and when the dinghy came to tho surface Waters and his daughter caught hold of the keel. Waters, who is a middle-aged man, was unable to swim, but his daughter, who is a strong swimmer, managed to keep up her father. Breakers swamped them, and each time they lost hold of tho boat. The girl would then swim after her father, and bring him back to safety. Several times tho boat turned over. plucky girl dived under and dragged him out. After being an hour in the water. Waters implored his daughter to leave him and save herself. landing her clothes too heavy, the girl secured her father by a log and, with her hands divested herself of fier heavy clothing. W aters, by this time, was unconscious, but the girl, with great physical endurance, continued to hold his head above water. Meantime, the accident had been observed by Mrs Waters, who ran for Mr Arthur, a visitor to the island, who also saw the occurrence. He secured two clothes' lines, with which ho struggled along the reef towards the distressed couple, who bad been earned in by the breakers. Alter considerable difficulty he managed to haul them ashore. Miss Waters, immediately her father had been hauled to safety, collapsed. Waters is still suffering from the effects of tho immersion.
