THE TAHORAITE TRAGEDY
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Press Association. DANNEVTRKE, February 3. Tbo native known as Sam David, residing at Tahoraite, appeared before Justices of tho Peace this morning charged with threatening to discharge a loaded firearm at his wife with intent to mnim or disfigure her. The occurrence took place at Tahoraite on Saturday at 6 p.m. Accused quarrelled with his wife and threatened to shoot her, and she ran to her neighbour’s. Accused followed, with gun at the trail, some distance away. On reaching the house where his wife had taken refuge, the owner of the house came out and tried to take the pm from accused, but only succeeded in extracting the cartridges. Accused then went back with the gun to his whare, where he was subsequently arrested. TTia wife declined to give evidence against him, but an eleven-year-old daughter told tho above story. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial at Palmerston North. Bail was allowed accused, in the sum of £2OO, and two sureties of £IOO each.
