ATHLETICS
WELLINGTON CENTRE. The Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Association met last evening. Mr R. W. McVilly presided. Messrs W. H. Pollock and B. A_ Guise wrote presenting challenge cups, the former for the half-mile Welling' ton provincial championship. The Mauawatu Athletic Club forwarded the programme for their meeting which is to ho held on February 19th. This was approved. The Athletic Football Sports Club applied for permission to hold a sports meeting on the Basin Reserve to-mor-row evening, which was granted. It. McKay applied, for,reinstatement as an amateur. He had been unable, he said, to join am amateur club, as there was non© in Blenheim and Greyraouth, where he had resided. Therefore ho had competed in professional events without Knowing he was infringing his maiden status. The centre decided to recommend the council to reinstate him. The Hon. W. H. Herries forwarded a cheque for £1 Is towards the funds of the centre. Mr J. W. Hoenan moved that Mr Duncan’s motion regarding the substitution of trophies, etc., for medals as prises to winners of the New Zealand championships .be rescinded and expunged from the records of tba centre. Mr M. L. Dunn seconded t]ie motion, which, after discussion, was earned. The following officials were appoint* ed for the Now Zealand championship meeting: Referee, Mr Marryatt; stewards, Messrs W. H. Pollock, Rosvear, W. F. Larkin, and A. Davies; track judges, Messrs Abbott, Guise, Burnett, and Field; judges, Messrs. Doyle, Jones, Dawson, and Donaldson; time-keepers, Messrs Tucker, Crouch, Laurenson, Ludwig, and Langdown; standard time-keeper, Mr J. H. Pollock; standard judge, Mr Dawson*; walking judge (left to the council to appoint); starter, Mr T. W. Leslie; dressing-room and call stewards, Messrs Don, W. H. Thompson, Turner and Cook; marksmen, Messrs Hardhain and Duncan; press stewards, Messrs Couzens and Heenan; marshal and clerk of course. Mr J. A- Cusack; re* suit board, Messrs Travers and Brace; number steward, Mr .Palmer; surveyor, Mr Hanify; surveyor’s steward, Mr W. H. Pollock; handicappers, Messrs Kitto, Dunn, and Jones; megapbonist, Mr C. Lamherg; advertising committee, Messrs Pollock, Guise and Dunn; programme committee, Messrs Kitto, Duncan, and Couzens; ground* committee, Messrs Dunn, Leslie, and J/ H. Pollock. Mr J.' B. Holt, who has been com neoted with amateur athletic* in the Commonwealth and New Zealand for the post twenty yeprs, resigned his position as a delegate to the Wellington Centre last evening. Mr Holt states that he is severing his connection with the sport, and that his resignation from other offices and also his membership of the athletic clubs to which he belongs, will follow in duo course.
