The election for the Londonderry City seat resulted; Mr Hogg (Nationalist) 2699 Mr I’akenham (Unionist) ... 2642 Nationalist majority 57 At the last election Lord Hamilton, the Unionist candidate (who recently resigned the seat), polled 2415 votes against 2510 received by Mr S. Leslie, the Nationalist candidate. Lord Hamilton had held the seat since 1900, when he defeated the Nationalist candidate. Count A. Moore, by 67 votes. Count Moore had gained tho seat at a by-election in February, 1899, by a majority of 42 votes over tho Unionist candidate. Count Moore's predecessor was Mr E. F. V. Knox (N.), who resigned. On January 10th, it was stated that the Nationalists at Londonderry, fearing that Mr Leslie, who is a convert to Catholicism, would alienate the votes of Protestant Home Rulers, finally selected Mr Hogg, a Presbyterian.
