IN THE TERMINATION OF THE ARMISTICE

THE SUGGESTION TO CEDE ADRIANOPLE. CAUSED DOWNFALL OF LATE GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received January 31, 10.45 p.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, January 31. Tho Government, in a lengthy reply to tho Powers, pointed out that tho suggestion to cede Adrianoplo had caused tho downfall of tho late Ministry. Nevertheless, tho Government was prepared to place itself in the Powers’ hands as regards that portion of Adrianoplo on the right bank of the Maritza, while keeping the part on tho left bank. Any other course would create a commotion in the country. _ Tho Porto is willing to abide by the Powers’ .decision as to the Aegean Islands, provided they maintained the integrity of the Dardanelles and Asia Minor. It is indispensable that the Powers should recognise Turkey’s right to control tho Customs, consenting meanwhile to a four per centum increase of duties, the abolition of foreign post offices and capitulations. Tho Turks are surprised at the denunciation of the armistice. They believed that tho Allies would await Turkey’s reply to the Powers’ note.
