HAWKE’S BAY RAM FAIR
QUALITY OF SHEEP INFERIOR TO LAST YEAR. Press Association. HASTINGS. January 31. The annual ram fair under the auspices of the Hawke's Hay Agricultural ana Pastoral Society was concluded on the show grounds to-day. The attendance of buyers was large, and representative of the whole of tne North island, but the bidding in most cases was not brisk, and compared with previous years there was a falling oh in prices. The quality of the sheep, both as regards flock and stud rams, was not up to last year's standard, and prices showed a corresponding decrease. A line of 276 flock Romneys penned on behalf of Mr E. itglingvou, h'eaiherstou, realised the highest price of the day. One pen brought ISfgus. In studs the top price reached waa ilgns, at which figure a shearling bred by Mr W. Perry, otf Te Aioiranga, was knocked down. The same puce was paid for a two-shear Romney bred by the late Mr B- J. Riddiford, and sold on behalf of Mr W. Perry, of Masterton, the buyer being Mr G. P. Donnelly. The bidding on the second day was more spirited in flock rams. A line of English Leicester bred by Mr G. B. Rhodes, Canterbury, realised from Igns to Bgiis; Southdowns from Lincoln College. sgns to 7|gns; Shropshire Downs, 2gns to Bgns; Lincolns from 2-igns up to Bgns.
