MANY ARRESTED AND SENT TO

PRISON

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, January 29. The suffragettes smashed windows in Regent and Oxford streets, Charing Cross, and other centres.

Three female and one male suffragists, who have been supporting Mrs Dospard, have been sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. A suffragette smashed another of the Hamburg-American Company’s windows, valued at £l5O.

An unknown person has paid the fine, in the case of Mrs Dcspard, who was arrested after a melee with the police, and accepted imprisonment rather than pay a 40s fine, and Mrs Despard has been released. “THERE WILL BE A HUNGERSTRIKE.” IMPRISONMENT IN SECOND DIVISION RESENTED. LONDON, January 29. Mrs Drummond, a suffragette, who was arrested for attempting to enter St. Stephen’s Hall, has been sentenced to a fortnight’s imprisonment in the second division. 7 On hearing tho verdict she exclaimed; “For shame; you mean tho first division. Grace Burbidge, a suffragette, was endeavouring to place phosphorus in a letter-box, when the phosphorus dropped on her arm and burnt it. Sho had to bo medically treated.
