PINAL SITTINGS, Press Association. KELSON, January 28. At the morning session of the Angli* .an General Synod, it was announced that Miss Marsden, of Nelson, had promised a donation of JllOOb for tho Marsden memorial, conditionally on five others giving a like sum. The Bishop ' of Auckland moved t "That cordial thanks be accorded Miss Marsden for hor munificent donation to the Marsden Centenary Pund, and tho Synod hopes that her example of generosity will be followed speedily by many in hew Zealand." ,
The motion was seconded by the Bishop of Christchurch, and carried.
The select committee on accounts and other financial matters submitted tho following recommendation: (1) That Jl5O for printing and publishing on occasional service book for the use of the clergy be advanced, those responsible drawing up and issuing the same; (2) that, owing to the state of the funds, and that .£OO has already been voted towards tho building of the Dunedin Cathedral, tho committee has no recommendation to make with reference to a suggested additional grant tp the Cathedral; (3) that, under the General Church Trust, no provision be made by which payments for actuarial investigation into various diocesan pension funds could be made." The Bishop of Auckland moved, and it was carried: “That members of the select committee sot up to report on tho selection and training of candidates for Holy Orders, together with the heads of the theological colleges, be appointed a commission to consider further recommendations and report to the next General Synod.” The select committee recommended to the commissioners, non-sessional committees, trust boards, and other bodies reporting to tho Synod, that reports bo presented in print.
The standing committee was elected as follows: The Primate (Bishop NeviLl), Bishop Julius, Archdeacon Richards (Dunedin), Messrs H. V. Andrews (Christchurch), and J. P. Martin (Wellington). The Bishop of Christchurch’s Bill altering the method of appointments of pastors to give greater powers to tho Bishop and dergy was read a third time and passed. Tho canon appointing the Maori Mission Board was repealed. The Primate and the Bishop of Auckland expressed, the hope that work amongst the Maoris, especially in Auckland diocese, would bo supported in the meantime. Resolutions in these terms were adopted. Tho Synod has concluded.
