HA ATP. TO A CLIMAX UNEXPECTEDLY. ■•'COME AND SAVE THE FATHERLAND’S HONOUR!” CONSTANTINOPLE. January 27. The movements at the Porte came to a climax’ unexpectedly. . Tho Committee of Union and Procress leaders intended to defer tne upBetting of Kiamil Pasha’s Ministry until peace was concluded. Fifteen of them then approached the Porte. Enver Bey joined them, while some dozens of partisans emerged from neighbouring cafes. Eventually 150 people arrived at the gateway of the Porto, including Talaat Bey and Nadji Bey* During tho morning the Regular Guard at tho Porte was mysteriously replaced by troops sympathising with tho Committee of Union and Progress. Hadji Boy bared his breast, and ebouted: (< Oorno and save tb© Fatbcrland’o honour, which a traitorous Governmont has trodden underfoot 1 Shoot mo if you will, so that yon may carry me to the grave, for there is no honour left in Turkey.” , , The shooting of Nazim Pasha and others followed. - An autopsy revealed that the.victims were also stabbed. Muntaz Bey, who is notorious in connection with previous murders of leading men, shot Nazim Pasha. Meanwhile Enver Bey informed Kiamil Pasha that he must either continue tho war or resign, otherwise there would be more bloodshed. Kiamil Pasha, who was quite cool, resigned in preference to continuing the war.
The members of the Cabinet were made prisoners nntil the Grand Vizier arrived. Three Europeans, who wore in a waiting room, were similarly detained. The leading opponents of the Committee of Union and Progress took refuge in the Embassies. ORDER MAINTAINED. 193 ARRESTS IN CONSTANTI-
