With reference to the motor-car accident that occurred at Silverstream on Saturday morning, E. V. Wallace, the driver of the taxi which had as occupants Messrs Stead, Duff, and Murphy, gives his version as follows: ‘* My car was going along in front of Foster s. He sounded his horn. I eased off on tho side of the road and he came dashing past me. whou liis wheel caught mine. He struck my front wheel, sending my car into a telegraph post. I smashed through the wind-screen of my car, and it knocked me a bit unconscious. When i. came to I found myself nearly half-way across the paddock and the car racing at top. I succeeded in stopping the engine. Mr Duff got out of the car at tho same time, and, swinging his arm round my neck, tried to steady himself, and then he lay on the ground. I wish to make it clear that my car never swerved at all. I was going on the right course. The trouble was that Foster’s car skidded, and when he tried to get the car out of the rut on to the road again it steered straight for me. My car did not run into the other car, because 1 was in front of Foster, and the first thing I knew of it was when the crash came.”
