IMPERIAL PREFERENCE
UNIONIST PROGRAMME WHAT THE PARTY WOULD DO IF IN POWER. By Telegraph—Press Association—-Copyßßht LONDON. January 26.
Air Bonar Law, in the course of his speech at Edinburgh, said the flag of Imperial preference would not bo hauled down. If the party was returned it would impose a moderate tariff on foreign manufacturers, lower than existed in any industrial country, and endeavour to establish co-operation throughout the Empire in trade in addition to defence. It would help the farmers in many ways by better housing, and would establish small landowners, making more people live on the land, and the party would encourage beet-growing. It also hoped to remove some of the existing food duties.
