Tho Postmaster-General, Mr Herbert Samuel, speaking at Rodcar, denied that there was a likelihood of Cabinet resignations over tho Franchise Bill. Tho Government had too many great, tasks in hand to justify a quarrel over one issue. Ho denied that the Speaker’s intervention was part of a deep-laid scheme to cheat the women suffragists.

MR ASQUITH AND HIS PLEDGES TO THE SUFFRAGETTES.

Tho Women’s Freedom League, in view of tho Speaker’s surprising opinion, has asked Air Asquith what steps ho is taking to fulfil his pledge to soenro an unfettered vote on Sir Edward Grey’s amendment. -Wr Asquith replied that tho Government is considering tho difficulties. Tho league has written to tb® Speaker upbraiding him for not alluding earlier to the point raised. NATIONAL SUFRAGETTES’ UNION. DEMANDS A NEW GOVERNMENT MEASURE. (Received January 27, 9 p.m.) LONDON, January 27. Tho non-militant National Suffrs* gettes’ Union declares that tho Speaker’s possible ruling -wipes out Mr Asquith’s pledges, and tho union demands a now Government measure. .
Lady Ward distributed the prizes at the Browning settlement, and Sir Joseph Ward referred to the smooth working of the Women’s Suffrage Act in New Zealand.
ANTI-SUFFRAGE LEAGUE.
APPEALS TO HOUSE OF COMMONS
The National Anti-Sufirago League, representing 30,000 women members. Has appealed to the House of Commons to reject the women’s franchise amendments as unj'ust both to men and women.
