DOMINION RIFLE ASSOCIATION
TRENTHAM MEETING. His Excellency the Governor has advised the chief executive officer (Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G.) that he will be pleased to accept tho position of patron of the association. Preliminary arrangements are now in hand for tho coming meeting, which opens at Trentham on Thursday, February 27th, and finishes in the following week, probably Friday, March 7th, when the several championships will be determined. The rifle range is being put m order. New telephones are to be installed, the grounds cleared of growth, and the firing mounds cleaned and made comfortable.
Entries close on Thursday, February I3th, after which 10 per' cent, will be charged. This regulation will be enforced, as it is important that squad lists should bo prepared and the order of firing fixed. Tho first three days of tho meeting will he devoted to Service and teams matches, and the Belt series will follow as soon as tho Service matches are disposed of. It is very necessary in tho interests of the association and rifle shooting generally that there should bo a large entry for the Service matches, as the defence authorities look to them for tho military value of the meeting. Extra matches at the long ranges are set down for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so that competitors will have ample opportunities for practice. The marking will be, as heretofore, carried out by the members of the New Zealand Permanent Force, and the catering will be in tho hands of tho association. The usual concessions on steamer fares have been arranged for, and free railway passes to and from place of meeting will bo granted to competitors.
