Bush fires, duo to heat and fanned by hot westerlies, occurred in the outer suburbs yesterday. The chief scene of fire was Hornsby, where Saint Peter’s Church and five cottages were destroyed. During the day sixteen localities reported outbreaks. 100 DEGREES IN THE SHADE. (Received January 26, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 26. The highest temperature in the shade yesterday was 100 degrees. At 5 o’clock a cool southerly followed, and the temperature shortly dropped to 74.
