BRAZILIAN BATTLESHIP

LAUNCHED AT ELSWICK. LONDON, January 23. The Brazilian 27,500-ton Dreadnought, Rio do Janeiro, has been launched at Elswick. The length of the Rio de Janeiro is 632 ft, beam 89ft, displacement 27,500 tons. The armament comprises fourteen 12in guns in double turrets, twenty Gin guns, tea 3-pounders, and three torpedo tubes. The hull is protected by a belt of Sin armour, and by Gin and Gin armour on the side above the belt. The turrets have Din armour, and the secondary battery is protected by Gin armour. There are three armoured decks (2in, llin, and liil). The Rio do Janeiro is to have a speed of 22 knots, and will carry a crew of 1100.
