THE TORCH
NOTICE OF MOTION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. LONDON, January 23. Mr J. H. Whitebouse (Liberal member for Mid Lanarkshire) has given notico of motion drawing the attention of the Admiralty to disciplinary measures in vogue ou H.M.S. Torch. LETTER FROM MAJOR ARCHERSHEE. (Received January 25, 1 a.m.) LONDON, January 24. Major. Archer-Shoe, m a letter to tho newspapers, referring to tho Prometheus and tho Torch, declares that the whole fault lies with the present Government. During their years of office they had not built a single ship to take the places of tho small cruisers on the Capo, East Indies, Australian, or Pacific stations. Consequently tho old ships wore constantly breaking down and being patched. The Admiralty were shielding themselves as to the cause of the Torch’s and Prometheus’s condition by censuring or superseding officers in connection with the defective condition of ships.
